Charleston, South Carolina, is surrounded by many beautiful neighborhoods with Daniel Island being one of the most scenic places to live, work, learn and play. The Island is situated between the Cooper and Wando rivers.

History of Daniel Island:

The Island derived its name from its former inhabitant the colonial governor of the Carolinas, Robert Daniell. The place was formerly owned by the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation and was limited to farming, cattle ranching and as a private hunting retreat. Today, the Island hosts a number of buildings such as national golf courses, sports facilities, business complexes, schools and restaurants. All this wouldn’t have been possible without a master plan sponsored by the Guggenheim Foundation. Under the plan, the development of residential properties began in 1996. In 1997 the island was purchased by developer Daniel Island Company.

Location:

Daniel Island is located about 15 miles from Charleston’s historic district and 8 miles from the airport. The Islands most attractive places are located within a 20-minute drive. The residents of Daniel Island enjoy all the facilities of modern living.

Amenities:

The Island boosts hundreds of acres of parks, two professional sports facilities – the Family Circle Tennis Center and MUSC Health Stadium and a private country club, the Daniel Island Club, which hosts the Nationwide Tour Championship, the final event of the Nationwide Tour. The Island also has two golf courses by Tom Fazio and Rees Jones as well as two churches and three schools.Daniel Island has eight key parks viz. Barfield Park, Center Park, Cochran Park, Codner's Ferry Park, Daniel Island Park, Etiwan Park, Pierce Park and Smythe Park. It also has a downtown area where many businesses, restaurants, doctors' offices, shops and condominiums are located.

Welcoming Neighbors:

Due to its miniature size, the Island makes a best place for neighbors to interact. It is a well-established community where people are warm and welcoming. The Island is a great place to make new friends.

Events:

The Island hosts year-round special events which include an annual picnic and concert at Smythe Park, concerts at Volvo Car Stadium, a seasonal farmers’ market and much more. The events provide endless opportunities for mixing and mingling with neighbors.

Coast Line:

The Island has 23 miles long rivers and creeks. The coast line attracts families for various water activities such as boating, swimming and fishing. The island is bordered on the west by the Cooper and Wando Rivers on the east as well as by Beresford Creek on the north.

Health And Safety:

The Island was architected keeping in mind the quality of life it offers to residents. The Island has not only the hundreds of acres of parks but also more than 25 miles of trails for walking, running and cycling. A number of fitness programs are provided on the island by the Daniel Island Property Owners’ Association.

School And Education:

Daniel Island follows the Berkeley County school system and is home to three schools offering educational opportunities for children of all ages:

  1. The Daniel Island School – The public elementary or middle school is located within walking distance to all island neighborhoods.

  2. Bishop England High School – Bishop England, one of the state’s finest private schools, offers an outstanding curriculum and award-winning athletics department.

  3. Daniel Island Academy – A private Early Childcare Center for children age 1-4 accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the gold standard for child care.

The Island on the whole is a great place for family people.
